… the trust that Gandhi had in his “inner knowing” and the trust that he inspired in the Indian people. Occupied and oppressed by the British Empire for hundreds of years, the Indian people were undoubtedly depressed as well as oppressed. . What could possibly bring the hope, inspiration and empowerment that would lead to the non-violent revolt that resulted in India’s independence in 1947?
