What Brings Me HOPE: I find hope through being part of something bigger than myself.
I found this site through a very unusual “text adventure” called Depression Quest. I’ve suffered through the effects of depression through most of my young adult life and only recently (rounding on 40 years) have I started to feel like I’m getting the hang of things. One of the most important realizations I have had is learning to connect with others (sometimes forcing myself a little) and learning my own value as an individual. I’ve learned to establish assertive boundaries, but continue to find myself dangling on that edge for weeks at a time. My spirituality tells me that I am not alone in the world, not as a human being, or as someone who suffers from depression. I know that isolation is one of the hardest struggles when dealing with my depression and I find that remembering that I am a valuable part of something bigger helps me to maintain perspective. I often find myself counseling others who also deal with depression and hopelessness and I feel called to assist them with this story. This is why I chose to share this little bit here. I believe, if we can find the strength to keep going, we can all be of service to others who suffer through our same condition. Maybe this can offer some inspiration and hope.
